Winners of our Second Blog Writing Competition Setting an example.
Thought Lantern was fortunate enough to organize its second Blog Writing Competition themed as Redefining the Role of Women in the 21st Century, and yet again, our winners have made us believe that words become a bridge when used wisely for everyone, irrespective of age and talent.
1st Winner Poornima Sivaraman.
Women have come a long way in the 21st Century. I have seen my
grandmother and mother working hard as homemakers. They worked tirelessly for their family. They were there to bring up the grandkids. I wonder at times if anyone asked them about their wish, what their wishes were, or did they had enough food?
Many could not attend school after the fifth grade and were married at an early age. It is sad, but that was the norm in those days.
Things changed around the 60s a bit, and many women could complete their graduation. As the development and mindset changed, slowly more women came out openly to complete and could get an opportunity to pursue what they wanted. Many were working women, managing the house and the work front.
In some houses, elders were there to provide moral support.
Now in the 21st century, women are reaching high in various fields like the three services, becoming scientists, and excelling in all Sports.
They are trained in Martial Arts to defend themselves, and can express their thoughts openly on many issues.
A free woman now.
2nd Winner Pinki Bakshi
The 21st century has redefined what it means to be a woman. Women are no longer confined to traditional roles; today, they are rewriting narratives in boardrooms, classrooms, sports, and even outer space. This shift isn’t just about breaking barriers; it’s about choice — the power to decide whether to lead a company, nurture a family, or do both.
For too long, women’s roles were shaped by expectations: to marry early, have children, and put others first. But today, womanhood is about changing that mindset. Some choose careers, others choose caregiving, and many blend both — each path equally valid when guided by free will, not pressure.
Modern womanhood is also about balance — between dreams and duties, ambition and affection, deadlines and dinner tables. Success no longer means perfection; it means presence. Some days, work takes priority; on others, it’s family or self-care — and that’s perfectly fine.
True progress isn’t about women doing everything — it’s about letting every woman decide what “everything” means for her. Because when women choose freely, they don’t just redefine roles — they redefine freedom itself.
She isn’t asking for permission; she’s claiming her space, rewriting the rules, and reshaping the future. Because when women rise, humanity rises with them.
3rd Winner Ashima Syal
The Women Now: Interweaving Realities.
Women, a wonder born to rule the world. From a time when women were living in the shackles of silence, they have now become the changemakers, their words carrying authority and solidarity. From taking a leap into the skies by designating themselves as fighter pilots to making a mark in the field of Cricket. Women today have transformed gender dynamics.
We see them matching the pace of men in every stance of life. Women are the shades that redefine the reflection of time. They are inspirations to conquer spatial injustices and prove their threshold in spaces that are often called women’s spaces. Women are interwoven narratives, painting the art of time in the best way possible. The world never fails to trust their story because the women of today are cover stories in themselves.
